The Acute Medical Unit is a 24-bedded mixed specialty ward admitting patients from the Emergency Department (ED). All medical specialties are admitted through this unit unless a specialty bed is required and available from ED; occasionally, some surgical and orthopaedic patients are admitted depending on demand.
We are looking for a Band 6 Senior Nurse/Charge Nurse Clinical Educator to promote and implement practice that develops high-quality patient care by providing education and support to junior staff members and HCAs.
Applicants should have a strong clinical background in acute general medicine to support the nursing team and ensure patients receive the appropriate standard of care.
AMU is seeking an experienced Band 5 nurse. The successful candidate will oversee daily ward management in the absence of the Ward Sister.
You will:
1. Be responsible for assessing, implementing, and monitoring standards of patient care.
2. Support staff training and education within the team.
3. Carry out risk management, and share learning with team members.
4. Understand budget control, including efficient use of resources and equipment.
5. Manage patient flow, ensuring timely admission and discharge to optimize emergency flow from ED and prompt specialist care.
6. Adapt quickly to changing situations, managing acutely unwell patients, and encouraging timely escalation and management of deteriorating patients.
7. Ensure the shift team provides high standards of patient care, with oversight of all patients to provide assurance to the ward manager.
