Hours: 37 hours per week
Place of Work: Worthing Town Hall/Flexible hybrid working - office-based with some home working

Adur & Worthing Councils are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Group Accountant (Management Accounting) to lead and deliver a comprehensive management accounting service. You will play a crucial role in the financial health of our Authorities, driving financial planning and reporting.

You will act as the financial lead that manages the Council's management accounting team and play a critical part in providing financial advice and support for Adur District Council, Worthing Borough Council & Joint Services.

Key Responsibilities
As the Group Accountant, you will be responsible for:

* Co-ordinating the production of the detailed annual revenue budgets.
* Co-ordinating the monthly monitoring and forecasting process.
* Producing the Quarterly revenue budget monitoring report for Members.
* Overseeing and assisting with the completion of all relevant statutory returns, grant claims, and closure of accounts.
* Managing and developing a team of Accountants.
* Ensuring compliance with the Service Accounting Code of Practice (SerCOP) and the Code of Practice on Local Authority Accounting (SORP).

As the Group Accountant you will have proven experience working in a financial environment, preferably within the public sector, with experience in the management and preparation of year end processes and the production of financial statements. You will have excellent communication and people management skills and an ability to develop and maintain good working relationships throughout the Council and with its partners.

You will be part of a core team aimed at meeting corporate financial objectives, driving change and implementing best practice in financial systems, and therefore also be able to manage a demanding workload, have good organisational skills and be able to manage your time and priorities effectively.

As a CCAB (or part) qualified accountant, you will need extensive experience of financial management and have the skills to support financial and management accounting service for the Council's. You'll be able to understand and interpret government legislation and similar complex documents, have sound analytical skills, and an adaptable approach to work with attention to detail.
