The Personal Banking Officer is a key role responsible for outbound, banker-initiated contact with members using in-branch renewal lists, branch, and marketing lead lists. The primary focus is to meet with designated members to understand and fulfill their banking needs, increase share of wallet, and refer to more senior bankers. Sales are driven by appointments generated through proactive calling and upselling of referrals provided by other sales professionals.
Contributes to achieving team sales targets and activities by effectively assessing members' financial needs. Provides product and service solutions (medium to high complexity in credit and investment) through effective interviewing and probing, delivering financial advice to meet the member’s overall financial goals. Recognizes and acts on referrals and sales opportunities, maintaining relationships with business partners to optimize business opportunities and referrals.
Major Responsibilities
* Grow and maintain the business and community portfolio
* Source, investigate, and analyze requests for products from various sources, including individual and commercial accounts, non-member entities, associations, co-operatives, not-for-profits, and competitors
* Manage relationships with commercial accounts, co-operatives, and not-for-profit organizations
* Meet sales targets by delivering products and services tailored to members’ needs
* Proactively promote and sell a full range of banking products and services
* Participate actively in branch meetings, huddles, initiatives, and campaigns
* Maximize sales opportunities through effective interviewing to uncover long-term financial needs
* Provide financial advice for moderate solutions involving investments and credit, utilizing financial calculators
* Acquire and refer high-value member relationships to internal and external partners
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all products and procedural changes
* Apply risk-based pricing models with rational discretion to ensure profitability
* Use sales and service tools to support member interactions
* Develop and implement a proactive call plan for members
* Follow up on self-generated sales, retention leads, and referrals from staff
* Identify personal development goals and participate in coaching sessions
* Comply with anti-money laundering guidelines
* Perform other duties as assigned
* Meet contact commitments and sales objectives as per the sales plan
* Satisfy members’ short- and long-term financial needs
* Note any exceptions to policies when recommending credit approval
Qualifications
Education / Certification / Experience
* Post-secondary education plus 3 years of related experience in a financial institution or equivalent combination
* Proven sales track record
* Enrolled in Financial Planning or similar programs as part of ongoing education
* Experience in providing credit solutions
Knowledge / Skills
* Strong analytical, interpersonal, business knowledge, and mathematical skills
* Good knowledge of investment, lending, and mortgage products to analyze and explain member needs
* Proficiency in computer applications like Excel and Word
* Effective communication skills for interviewing and uncovering needs
* Problem-solving skills for resolving complex issues
* Negotiation skills for member solutions and sales
