Stress Engineer - Static Analysis Aerostructures
* Full-time
* Contract Type: Permanent
* Region: South West UK
ALTEN is a global engineering and technology consultancy operating across over 35 countries worldwide. We partner with industry leaders across sectors including Aeronautics, Aerospace, Defence, Naval, Automotive, Energy, Rail, IT and many more to deliver innovative engineering solutions that drive technological advancement & support sustainable transformation.
Our teams of passionate and agile engineers work on cutting‑edge projects that shape the future of technology and sustainability. At ALTEN, we empower talented engineers to innovate, solve complex challenges, and deliver impactful solutions that build tomorrow’s world—today.
We’re seeking a Senior Structural Model Owner to take ownership of the aircraft Global Finite Element Model (GFEM) — the core model underpinning loads, static strength, structural dynamics, and aeroelastic analysis across the programme.
This is not a typical “stress analysis” role. Instead, you’ll operate at aircraft level, owning and developing the model that enables downstream stress, loads, and flight physics activities.
You’ll sit at the centre of the programme, working across airframe, loads & dynamics, and flight physics, with real influence over how the aircraft is modelled, analysed, and validated.
Key Responsibilities
* Own and develop the aircraft‑level Global Finite Element Model for loads, static, and dynamic analysis
* Act as the focal point for all GFEM‑related activities across the Loads & Dynamics function
* Define, negotiate, and manage model inputs from stress, design, mass properties, and systems teams
* Perform and document model validation (static checks, dynamic behaviour, and quality assurance)
* Implement updates driven by design changes, weight evolution, and configuration changes
* Support multibody model development and integration
* Manage model configuration, version control, and release processes
* Deliver accurate reduced models to support loads, stress, aeroelasticity, and system analyses
* Support dynamic and aeroelastic discussions (e.g. modal behaviour, flutter considerations)
* Correlate models with Ground Vibration Test (GVT) and flight test data
* Static Analysis for Aerostructures
Required Skills
* Strong experience in finite element modelling within aerospace or complex structures
* Experience working at sub‑assembly or full aircraft model level (not just detail stress analysis)
* Proven background in model reduction techniques (e.g. superelements, Craig‑Bampton, CMS)
* Solid understanding of loads, structural dynamics, and aeroelasticity
* Experience with model validation and correlation (e.g. GVT, test data)
* Proficiency with tools such as MSC Nastran or Altair Optistruct
* Experience using Python or MATLAB for automation or analysis workflows
* Exposure to multibody modelling
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple engineering teams
Required Qualifications
* A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience
* Work at aircraft level, not just component stress
* High ownership of a critical programme model
* Strong technical influence across loads, dynamics, and flight physics
* Opportunity to shape modelling approaches and ways of working
* Clear progression into technical leadership or team growth
Benefits
* A personalised career path and a rewarding management style
* A huge diversity of engineering projects and industries
* Private Medical Insurance
* Employee assistance programme
* Life insurance & Pension Scheme
* Social atmosphere, regular gatherings & team building
* Flexible way of working (role dependent)
