Join Our Woodbank Female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of our Woodbank Female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Stepping Hill Hospital. This is the first female PICU within Pennine Care, a 6-bedded unit designed to deliver outstanding, compassionate, and trauma-informed care. Are you passionate about Trauma Informed Care?
We are looking for dedicated, motivated, and compassionate individuals to join our team. As a member of our team, you will:
* Act as a positive role model, reflecting the values of both the Trust and the unit.
* Contribute to providing high-quality, safe, secure, and therapeutic care.
* Help shape the future of this pioneering service, with a strong focus on staff wellbeing as well as patient care.
* Support service user recovery through a trauma-informed approach, underpinned by the RAID model (Reinforce Appropriate, Implode Disruptive strategies).
At Woodbank PICU, we deliver care through our 3Ps model - Positive, Proactive & Person-Centred. This multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial approach ensures the best outcomes for our female service users.
Main Responsibilities:
* Act as named nurse/key worker for an identified group of service users, ensuring assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
* Co-produce collaborative, person-centred care plans and facilitate therapeutic activities to support recovery.
* Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated and high-quality care.
* Engage in de-escalation and conflict management, applying PMVA (Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression) techniques.
* Undertake gatekeeping assessments for admission to PICU in the absence of the Clinical Pathway Team.
* Support the safe management of the ward by conducting safety checks, risk assessments, and clinical observations, in line with Trust policy.
* Administer medication safely, including controlled drugs, in accordance with Medicines Management Policy and NMC guidance.
* Take on the role of Shift Leader when required, ensuring effective handovers, smooth ward operations, and clear communication.
* Promote a safe, therapeutic environment, ensuring incidents are reported and managed appropriately.
* Ensure clinical practice aligns with least restrictive principles and trauma-informed values.
We will provide mandatory and bespoke training to equip you with the skills needed to thrive in a PICU environment.
