Job Title: Consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities This is a new post to support the regional paediatric Gastroenterology service based at Southampton General Hospital.

Person Specification Qualifications, Training & Experience Essential criteria:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
GMC registration with a licence to practise
Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
Hold a CCT (or equivalent for overseas service) in Paediatrics or be within six months of CCT date or have undertaken comparable paediatric gastroenterology training
Experience in Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Nutrition, Paediatric Endoscopy
Desirable criteria:
On specialist register for paediatrics and have recognition on the specialist register in Paediatric gastroenterology
Completion or evidence of working towards a higher academic degree (MD/PhD).
Familiarity with working in networks
Previous research experience
Aptitudes and skills Essential criteria:
Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
Commitment to CPD supporting undergraduate learning
Awareness of the requirements of clinical governance, with particular reference to paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition
Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national forums
Desirable criteria:
Formal training in clinical governance
Ability to develop collaborative working, and peer education
Ability to prosecute own research ideas
Ability to develop research collaborations
