Fire Risk Officer
Location: SOuth East London
Initial 3-6 Month ongoing Contract
Rate: Negotiable (Umbrella) depending on experience
Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm
Role Overview Reporting to the Team Manager, you will lead on the day-to-day health and safety management of building projects, maintenance contracts, and fire risk assessments. You will allocate work to internal teams or external contractors and ensure the highest standards of delivery, safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Oversee building safety, fire risk assessments, and contract compliance across the borough
2. Manage and allocate work to Property Services Officers/Supervisors and contractors
3. Ensure projects meet safety standards, budgets, and quality benchmarks
4. Develop robust procedures and quality assurance frameworks
5. Deputise for the Assistant Manager when required
6. Support and mentor team members, sharing knowledge and expertise
7. Provide input into the improvement of FRA templates, policies, and processes
Knowledge & Skills
8. Strong knowledge of contract law, building regulations, BS 9999, PAS 79, and Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
9. Ability to plan and manage maintenance and refurbishment programmes
10. Experience supervising staff and working with multidisciplinary teams
11. Familiarity with complex, tenanted social housing blocks
Requirements
12. Background in surveying or building with knowledge of fire safety in purpose-built blocks
13. Qualified Fire Risk Assessor
14. Membership with IFE (Institution of Fire Engineers)
15. Experience working in a local authority or housing association setting
16. Commitment to collaboration and team development
