Role Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing design team. You will be responsible for producing detailed mechanical building services designs (HVAC, hot & cold water, heating, ventilation, refrigeration), from concept through to completion. Working closely with project managers, clients, and contractors, you will ensure designs meet technical standards, budgets, and sustainability targets.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop mechanical building services designs from initial brief through to detailed design.
* Produce drawings, specifications, and technical calculations using CAD and relevant software (AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, IES, etc.).
* Undertake heat loss/gain calculations, load assessments, and energy modelling where required.
* Collaborate with electrical engineers and other disciplines to deliver coordinated designs.
* Provide technical support to project managers and site teams during installation.
* Ensure compliance with current UK building regulations, CIBSE, and industry standards.
* Attend client meetings and design reviews.
* Support bids and tenders with technical input where required.
Skills & Experience
* Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
* Experience in mechanical building services design, ideally within HVAC/refrigeration sectors.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit MEP and BIM experience desirable.
* Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and design standards.
* Good understanding of sustainable design and low-carbon technologies.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multi-discipline teams.
