Job Purpose / Overview:
SZC Project Controls acts as a centre of excellence, managing delivery performance information to enable successful project delivery through proactive project controls. The Deputy Head of Risk will support the Project Management Office (PMO) and Delivery Programmes, overseeing risk processes across SZC in collaboration with the Head of Risk. The role involves ensuring efficient risk activities aligned with SZC governance, driving innovation towards a 'Digital by Default' approach.
The candidate should have extensive experience in large-scale project environments, with knowledge of multiple risk management settings, and an understanding of effective risk management practices. Experience on major programmes will enable them to assure outputs produced by senior risk managers.
They should have experience working with multidisciplinary teams and senior leadership to ensure effective risk management, with the ability to handle multiple activities, prioritize tasks, and deputize for the Head of Risk.
Principal Accountabilities:
Supporting and deputising for the functional Project Controls Risk Leads within the PMO, and leading risk management within one of the SZC capital delivery programmes.

* Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining Integrated Project Controls (Risk) processes.
* Support tasks assigned by the Risk Functional Lead and deputize at key meetings like Executive Risk Reviews and weekly Functional Leads/Programme Controls meetings.
* Help establish and maintain project controls systems, tools, and work instructions for SZC, ensuring risk requirements are appropriately flowed down.
* Coordinate risk activities such as EAC updates, ERR preparation, and QRAs.
* Support progress reporting, including risk dashboards, forecast updates, variance analysis, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
* Ensure effective assurance processes for delivery programs.
* Promote risk management excellence within the construction industry through knowledge sharing and presentations.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
Knowledge & Skills:
* Strong leadership, motivation, delegation, team management, and collaboration skills. Ability to delegate and lead small teams.
* Excellent engagement skills to work with diverse teams across the project lifecycle.
* Ability to extract insights from risk and project controls processes and communicate effectively at all levels.
* Facilitation skills for complex workshops.
* Technical expertise in delivering QRAs (Cost, Schedule, and Integrated QRAs) and enterprise risk management.
* Capability to support various project controls and delivery processes, including finance.
* Strong mitigation skills supported by project and programme management experience.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Relevant sector experience and broad sector knowledge.
* Experience working with assurance teams like Independent Technical Assessors or Project Reps.
* Understanding of building confidence across assurance professionals and driving improvements.
* Risk management or technical qualifications relevant to the sector.
