Summary
As a senior caregiver at Visiting Angels Edinburgh, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our clients by providing essential support, advocating for both clients and carers to ensure the best quality of care that we promise to deliver. This position is based across our regions of Midlothian, East Lothian and Edinburgh.
Drivers license and car is essential.

Purpose of the position:
To provide care in accordance with current best practice, according to policy and procedures, agreed standards, legislative requirements, relevant regulations and within the financial plans agreed from time -to-time.
To maintain care skills at a current level, and undertake such training and development as may from time-to-time be required to maintain that currency of practice.
To provide leadership and supervision for the Caregivers employed at Visiting Angels Edinburgh.
To assist in the improvement and maintenance of the Care Act and Care Inspectorate's Essential Standards.
Main Duties
To develop effective working relationships with the Registered Manager at Visiting Angels.
Assist the development of the philosophy, goals and objectives for the caring function.
To attend to all care related functions of the clients.
To interact with the clients in an appropriate manner; whilst always maintaining boundaries.
As much as possible, to help clients live a life of choice; whilst always maintaining their safety and dignity.
To treat clients with respect and always maintain their privacy and dignity.
Implement action to meet and maintain caring standards.
To safeguard the clients at all times; and to always speak up if you think that a resident is being harmed or negatively affected in some way.
To support clients in all aspects of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, dressing, feeding, etc. whilst helping them to maintain their optimum level of independence
To dispense medications as per MAR chart at the correct times to the correct Resident.
To ensure all medication ordering and stocks are accurate.
To ensure all MAR charts are audited in line with Visiting Angels Quality Monitoring procedure.
To always put the best interests of the clients first; and act with empathy and compassion at all times.
To provide professional support and guidance to Caregivers.
To ensure that Caregivers are conducting themselves in a professional and resident centred way at all times.
Always follow appropriate regulations as stipulated by relevant organisations, such as the Care Inspectorates Fundamental Standards, the Health & Safety Executive, etc.
Ensure Resident's rights are protected.
Other Responsibilities
Develop effective working relationships with the other employees within Visiting Angels.
Support an open, positive and inclusive management culture.
Participate in the development of relevant policies, particularly those pertaining to the caring function.
Work to establish effective employer-employee relationships.
Minimise legal risks by adhering to all relevant legislation, registration requirements and best practice guidance.

* Assist in the implementation of caring policies and procedures.
* Assist in the maintenance of the standards as required by legislation related to the registration of Visiting Angels.
* Work in a cost-effective manner; with an awareness of budgetary constraints.
* Assist in solving day-to-day problematical issues which arise.
* Attend Staff Meetings as scheduled, as and when required.
* Support the effective resolution of team conflicts.
* Assist with the orientation and induction of new employees.
* Support a work atmosphere which promotes a high quality of work life.
* Support and maintain a culture of performance and excellence.
Person Specification - Senior Caregiver
Experience / Knowledge
* Relevant experience in adult residential services / care
* A thorough understanding of the Care Act, Care Inspectorate's Essential Standards and other relevant standards
* Experience of supervising and guiding others
* An understanding of the uniqueness of providing a tailored home care service
* Excellent understanding of the needs of people who require care and support and the provision of care
services in line with best practice
* Excellent understanding of the principles of high quality person centred care and support and non-
discriminatory care practice
* Knowledge of health and safety matters in relation to care services and risk management
* Knowledge of how to recognise abuse and safeguarding procedures
* Experience of providing medications as per MAR chart
* Aptitude for medication administration and person-centred care planning
* Experience of working with budgetary constraints
Qualifications
* SVQ Diploma Level 3 (preferable)

Requirements
* Previous experience in a care role is preferred but not essential.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
* Compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
* A valid driving license is essential for travel between client locations.
* Above all else, personality and excellent soft communication skills are essential.
Working Hours
Expected working hours: Flexible availability to be able to shadow with new caregivers and support in their introductions to our clients. You will work 2 out of 4 weekends
On call is a part of the role.
