Wage

£17,667 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age. National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices. We always pay our apprentices based on performance; if you perform well wages will go up faster than the average minimum wage.


Training

Training course: Building services engineering technician 2022 (level 3). Training provider: BATH COLLEGE. Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.


Hours and duration

Hours: 8am – 5pm in the office with some occasional site meetings once settled into the job. Days to be confirmed. 45 hours a week. Duration: 2 years 8 months.


Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.


What you'll do at work

* Commercial responsibilities
* CAD work (training course provided)
* Meetings and client relationships
* CRM software specific to construction

Our aim is to make you as skilled and as valuable as possible, just like we do with our electrical apprenticeship scheme that has run for 10 years with fantastic results.

Previous experience and an interest in office applications, IT and using different software. Interest in the construction industry. Work ethic and professionalism mandatory!

Your duties will include:

* Working directly with the technical manager on electrical estimating, learning how to price and value projects (a very valuable skill to learn) using specialist software we will train you in.
* Working alongside the office-based team to organise folders and drawings to provide to the site teams.
* Produce design work using CAD to update drawings and make alterations.

Office hours will be 8am – 5pm in our newly refurbished office in Gloucester. We offer free parking at the office.

Training provider and course details

Bath College — Building services engineering technician 2022 (level 3).

* Apply appropriate building services engineering principles, techniques, and methods, including mathematical, scientific, and technical know-how, to building services engineering and the construction or manufacturing process
* Apply key principles, techniques and methods of data and technical information collection, analysis and evaluation to support the delivery of building services engineering models (such as Building Information Modelling), designs, and technical solutions
* Operate computer-based software packages, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) or modelling software (Revit) to produce and present technical information and documentation with relevant conventions and engineering terminology
* Apply statutory health, safety and welfare policies, procedures, and regulations in the building services engineering environment, using risk management processes, procedures, and documentation
* Support and contribute to the production or modification of building services engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards, procedures, codes of practice, regulations, and legislation, such as the Building Safety legislation
* Apply principles of sustainable development, including those relating to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), environmental policies and legislations in building services engineering projects, recognising the need to reduce carbon use, lower emissions, and wider sustainability
* Plan, carry out and manage own work in line with quality assurance systems and processes, recognising the wider implications to customer needs, and within cost and resource limitations
* Consider equality, diversity, and inclusion in the delivery of building services engineering projects
* Apply document control processes and procedures using the approved processes, maintaining quality compliance when creating or amending engineering documentation
* Communicate using appropriate methods for the audience, and incorporate relevant and appropriate terms, standards, and data
* Apply ethical principles to building services engineering projects, including the secure use of data and information
* Plan, undertake and review their own professional competence, regularly updating and reviewing their CPD to improve performance

The apprentice will be required to attend one day per week, term time only, at our Somer Valley Campus in Radstock.


Requirements

GCSEs: Maths (grade 4/C or above). IT related (grade Pass or C or above). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

The ability to be versatile. As a small to medium business, we need a candidate that does more than one type of office-based work, and we will train them for it.


About this employer

We are an Electrical and Mechanical contractor based in Gloucester. We have 15 employed staff and on average another 15 sub contracting. We work primarily in the commercial sector, student accommodations, Hotels, Schools, shop fitting and light industrial. We design lighting and power installations for high end residential projects too. We absolutely love what we do here!

Depending on the area they show the most strength, commercial manager, quantity surveyor or estimator. We will train all options and discuss the best role once qualified.
