FPGA Engineer – UK Based – £75k+ DOE
We’re working with a pioneering engineering firm renowned for developing cutting-edge, high-reliability electronic systems. As part of their continued growth, they’re looking for a FPGA Engineer to take the lead on complex, mission-critical FPGA designs. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative and forward-thinking environment where innovation, quality, and precision are at the heart of every project.
The Role:
As an FPGA Engineer, you’ll play a key role in architecting and implementing advanced FPGA systems from the ground up. From capturing technical requirements to developing robust, efficient modules, you’ll be driving high-impact projects that demand both innovation and precision. You’ll also lead interface development, support verification planning, and ensure integration aligns with overall system design.
The position sits within a specialist team and reports directly to the Head of FPGA Development. It offers scope for growth, leadership, and the opportunity to stay at the forefront of FPGA technology.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design and development of high-performance FPGA solutions for safety- and mission-critical systems.
* Define system architectures and translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions.
* Coordinate with cross-functional teams on integration and interface definition.
* Design and execute verification strategies using custom testbenches and simulations.
* Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall improvement of FPGA design practices.
* Stay current with industry trends, emerging tools, and methodologies in the FPGA domain.
* Travel within the UK may occasionally be required to support multi-site collaboration.
What We’re Looking For:
* Proven experience (8+ years) in FPGA development, particularly in high-integrity environments.
* Strong proficiency in VHDL and RTL design techniques.
* Familiarity with modern FPGA and SoC platforms, and a deep understanding of simulation and verification flows.
* Hands-on experience with ModelSim/QuestaSim, TCL scripting, and Quartus development tools.
* Working knowledge of version control systems such as GIT, SVN, or CVS.
* Educated to degree level (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline.
Desirable Extras:
* Exposure to Vivado, Libero, and additional FPGA toolchains.
* Experience with Verilog, SystemVerilog, and modern verification methods like UVM or OSVVM.
* Understanding of networking protocols, encryption algorithms, or low-power FPGA solutions.
* Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (e.g., USB 3.2, NVMe) and Linux-based development environments.
Why Apply?
* Work on cutting-edge projects with real-world impact.
* Hybrid working model (UK-based only).
* Excellent benefits package and opportunities for professional development.
* Be part of a collaborative team in a company that values technical excellence.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be British Citizens and capable of obtaining Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
