Overview
We are seeking a 0.6 WTE Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join an enthusiastic and committed team providing support to patients within Liverpool and South Sefton. The appointee, together with colleagues, will contribute to the development and delivery of newly integrated services across the city. The post includes 6 Programmed Activities (PAs) and the main commitments in the first year (subject to annualised job planning) are proposed as follows:
* Support to the in-patient unit at Woodlands Hospice.
* Support to the ambulatory/out-patient services within the IMPaCT North service based at Woodlands Hospice, including the virtual ward.
* The post holder will provide cross-cover support to other services when required and undertake community visits to promote continuity of care for patients.
The appointee is expected to participate in the current second on-call medical rota for weeknights (5pm–9am) and weekends (5pm Friday to 9am Monday), covering the North Liverpool/South Sefton locality, which includes the Woodlands Hospice inpatient unit, the virtual ward, Aintree Hospital and the 24-hour IMPaCT North advice line, currently on a 1:8 basis. This post has a commitment of 0.5 PA (1.5 hours) per day at weekends to support the virtual ward remotely, with compensatory TOIL of 1 PA to be taken the week after the on-call.
The services across Liverpool have undergone complete transformation following the merger of Aintree and the Royal Liverpool hospitals, the transfer of clinical services from Woodlands Hospice into LUHFT, and the local re-modelling of palliative care services in 2020 to form the Integrated Mersey Palliative Care Team (IMPaCT).
IMPaCT provides a fully integrated holistic palliative care service across the city, in collaboration with our partners at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, Marie Curie Hospice Liverpool and Woodlands Hospice, with a single point of access and referral into services for patients, carers and health care professionals.
The post holder will be employed by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will primarily support the delivery of in-patient and ambulatory services based at Woodlands Hospice, including the new IMPaCT virtual ward.
