Bracknell
Temporary
Bracknell Forest Council
Posted: 13 March
Offer description

Everything we do is about improving lives and strengthening trust in our services. By listening carefully to what residents tell us, through complaints and scrutiny, we learn and use insights to make our services better. We are looking for someone to join us as a Corporate Complaints and Scrutiny Officer on a full time, fixed-term basis for 18 months, to improve our corporate complaints and scrutiny function, helping us build a modern, transparent and future-ready service for our community.

Any successful internal candidate will be offered the position as a secondment and, in line with Section 8.1 of the Secondment Policy, must consult with their manager before applying. Search ‘secondment policy’ on the intranet for more information.

At Bracknell Forest, we pride ourselves on being a council which is stable and well-managed where our employees can thrive in a supportive environment. We understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance and offer a variety of flexible working practices, including options for remote working and arrangements that allow you to work from home, dependent on the needs of the service.

About you…

We are looking for a dedicated and highly capable professional with strong attention to detail and a commitment to fair, transparent and evidence led‑processes. You bring curiosity, confidence and sound judgement, with the ability to handle sensitive and complex information calmly and accurately. Organised and purposeful, you contribute meaningfully across both complaints and scrutiny, communicating clearly with diverse audiences and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and public service.

You will receive on‑the‑job training, mentoring from experienced colleagues and support to develop your knowledge of democratic processes, systems and civic services.

About the team…

The Corporate Complaints and Scrutiny team is supportive, welcoming and works with real purpose. We work closely with colleagues and councillors across the organisation, acting as the trusted, impartial voice that helps to strengthen fairness, transparency and confidence in our democratic and governance processes. We combine insight from complaints and scrutiny to drive learning, improve services and ensure residents’ experiences shape better decision making across the council.

Key responsibilities…

* Provide operational support across corporate complaints and scrutiny functions, ensuring work is prioritised effectively and deadlines are met.
* Support complex complaint investigations by collating evidence, liaising with officers and residents, drafting clear responses and coordinating responses to complaints escalated to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman (LGCSO).
* Support the planning and delivery of meetings of the Overview & Scrutiny Commission and Panel meetings, including agenda management, report publication, attendance at meetings and follow-up of actions.
* Provide officer support for task and finish reviews, including research, evidence collation, data analysis and co-ordinating witness attendance (including residents and community partners), and contribute to drafting review reports and recommendations.
* Produce and maintain accurate complaints and scrutiny data to support reporting and analysis, identifying trends and supporting service improvement and influencing policy

Our benefits…

* 28 days annual leave increasing to 33 days after 3 years’ continuous service, with the opportunity to buy up to 10 and sell up to 5 days.
* Hybrid working opportunities to support your wellbeing and work-life balance.
* Paid employee volunteering scheme.
* Local government pension scheme, with life insurance cover.
