Job Description - This role is for a Temporary Summer Supervisor.
Salary: You will be paid an hourly rate in line with the Living Wage Foundation's rates. Each month, you have the opportunity to achieve a bonus based on year-over-year sales growth targets set by your manager. Exceeding these targets will result in additional bonuses for you and your team!
Location: You will primarily work in one shop. Occasionally, you may need to work in other stores or travel for training sessions, meetings, or events, which might involve overnight stays. Working from home is not permitted.
Hours: Your contracted weekly hours will be set by your manager based on business needs and your availability. Any significant changes in availability or business needs may result in adjustments to your contract hours. Shifts will be scheduled in coordination with the store manager, considering business demands and peak trading periods. Extra shifts, when available, will be shared fairly among the team throughout the year.
The Shop Floor
As a Supervisor, you'll play a crucial role in creating a welcoming and vibrant shop floor that excites customers. Your primary responsibility is to lead, inspire, and support the sales team to deliver exceptional service. You'll ensure that every visitor to the shop leaves with a smile, having experienced outstanding service, and found the products that are right for them.
Encourage and motivate sales assistants to deliver exceptional customer experiences. Provide regular feedback and coaching to sales assistants, helping them improve their product knowledge and customer service skills. Conduct regular training with your sales team, throughout the working day, to improve their product knowledge and sales skills.
Greet customers warmly as they enter the store, making them feel welcome and valued right away. Engage with customers by asking open-ended questions to understand their needs and preferences. Listen carefully and provide personalised recommendations based on what they tell you.
Facilitate great product demonstrations, ensuring they are performed effectively and confidently by the team.
Create an inclusive and fun environment, particularly for special events and customer celebrations. Ensure that customers receive tailored samples and understand how to use them for the best results. Build and maintain rapport with regular customers, remembering their preferences and past purchases.
Maintain a clean, tidy, and visually appealing shop floor. Ensure that products are displayed according to guidelines, maximising visibility and sales. Assist in adjusting displays to reflect seasonal changes and sales trends.
Collaborate with the store manager to uphold high standards of shop presentation and customer experience. Assist in managing stock levels, ensuring displays are well-stocked and organised. Handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally and efficiently.
Review sales assistants' performance and customer feedback, providing constructive feedback and recognition. Set clear performance goals for the team and support them in achieving these targets. Alongside your manager, conduct regular team meetings to discuss performance, share updates, and foster a collaborative environment.
Supporting and Growing the Business
As a Supervisor, you help the store manager drive sales and exceed targets. With the targets set, you innovate ways to motivate the team, creating a collective drive to surpass targets-this could be through check-ins, focus boards, or shop floor competitions. If targets are not met, you reflect on potential improvements and use these insights to grow as a team.
You contribute to business growth by running in-store events, external outreach, and maintaining an active online presence. You help train the team to host events that leave customers with a lasting impression.
In the absence of the Store Manager or Trainee Manager, you lead the store, ensuring sales are maximised and the shop remains open during all advertised hours.
You help communicate shop expenditure, progress towards financial goals, and identify opportunities for increasing profitability.
You support effective stock management by ensuring shelves are well-stocked with quality products, avoiding overstocking. You react to current sales trends by adjusting stock levels to maximise sales and profit.
Your Team
As a Shop Supervisor, you maintain open communication with the team, regularly checking in and providing feedback and coaching as needed. You support the recruitment, training, and development of team members, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge.
You're constantly aware of the team and customers on the shop floor - and you are actively keeping channels of communication open so everyone working with you knows what is needed to provide the best service possible.
You ensure a safe work environment by following health and safety procedures and guidance shared by the Store Manager.
Leadership
Aside from everything, the best leadership you can give your team is from the front, on the shop floor. Leading by example, and showing your team how it's done, will be core to your work ethos as a Supervisor.
You support the store manager in setting team goals and creating a vision for the shop's future. You help establish daily targets, providing regular feedback and coaching to meet these objectives. In the manager's absence, you lead the team, maintaining high standards.
You assist in developing the management team, mentoring and coaching them, creating and running training programs, and conducting performance reviews. You help with team-building activities and problem-solving, fostering a strong, collaborative team.
Your Development
As a Shop Supervisor, you are encouraged to contribute ideas to enhance the customer experience and shop floor dynamics. You will receive coaching and support from the UK&I Retailers, your Manager, and other support teams to implement these ideas. Aim to build and grow your skillset so you have a wide understanding of all aspects of leading and running a lush shop floor.
You will participate in central training sessions and bring key messages back to your team. Actively seek opportunities for further development to enhance your skills.
Connecting with other managers and supervisors within the community is integral to your role, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge exchange.
