Flood Risk Consultant role at Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST)
Waterman Aspen is seeking a Flood Risk Consultant to join our Water and Environment North team. This is a contract or salaried position with flexibility in location (Leeds, Newcastle, North East, Yorkshire) and employment type (permanent salaried or PAYE). Salary is dependent on experience, skills and location.
Responsibilities
* Apply UK flood risk legislation and planning standards to develop and progress flood risk management schemes.
* Develop business cases for Flood Defence Grant in Aid (FDGiA) funding.
* Contribute to hydraulic modelling activities (e.g., Flood Modeller, TUFLOW) or drainage modelling (e.g., MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow) and apply fundamental hydraulic design principles.
* Engage with public sector clients (e.g., LLFA, EA) and work in client-facing environments to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
* Prepare and contribute to planning applications and ensure awareness of LLFA duties.
* Support project delivery with appropriate project management ideas and practices.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide clear written and verbal communication to clients and internal teams.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* UK experience with a public, private, or third-sector UK-based client.
* Degree in environmental or civil engineering or equivalent experience; membership of an appropriate institution.
* Chartered Member or working towards chartered membership of a professional institution (e.g., CIWEM, ICE, APM).
* Technical experience in UK flood risk legislation and planning standards.
* Experience developing business cases for flood risk management schemes to secure FDGiA funding.
* Knowledge of hydraulic modelling (Flood Modeller, TUFLOW) or drainage modelling software (MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow); strong hydraulic design principles.
* Experience or understanding of project management to achieve project delivery.
* Experience working with public sectors such as LLFA and/or EA.
* Experience with planning applications and awareness of LLFA duties.
* Experience working in client-facing environments and ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence.
* Chartered Membership of a relevant professional organisation.
