Livewell community substance use services are seeking to recruit a Non-medical prescriber to join our team of prescribers working within Livewell Southwest in partnership with Harbour Drug and Alcohol Services. This is an exciting opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in a specialist field offering prescribing for clients who use drugs and alcohol. Considerable investment has been made in substance use services to enhance our offerings, including psychological and pharmacological treatments such as Buvidal.
Working within a team of specialist doctors, non-medical prescribers, community pharmacists, and Harbour staff, the role involves assessing prescribing needs within drug and alcohol work. The role includes being able to assess and prescribe, where appropriate, opiate substitute treatments (OST), benzodiazepine reductions, opiate detoxifications, and relapse prevention medications in line with medications in Recovery.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will prescribe for clients open to Harbour with a keyworker, working closely with Harbour to achieve optimal treatment outcomes and maintain safe prescribing practices to reduce substance misuse-related harm. The role requires service development and leadership skills.

Job responsibilities
The Non-Medical Prescriber will be part of the prescribing team at Harbour within Livewell services. Responsibilities include managing and coordinating a prescribing caseload within the complex lives system, assessing, diagnosing, implementing, and planning prescribing interventions that address physical, mental health, and social needs. The role involves providing expert advice and clinical support while promoting high-quality service delivery within the community.
The role also supports the service manager in service operations, managing and prioritizing a caseload, delegating tasks as appropriate, and coordinating the wider team in the absence of the Clinical Lead/Head of Service. Participation in policy development through professional forums and implementing practices aligned with national and local drivers is also expected.
