Overview
UNSW Canberra at the Australian Defence Force Academy delivers a unique “grey ship”, navy‑focused, naval architecture degree programme which is one of only two undergraduate naval architecture degree programmes in Australasia. The School of Engineering and Technology offers a flexible, friendly working environment that is well‑resourced and delivers research‑informed education as part of its accredited, globally recognised undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Accountabilities
* Deliver teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
* Conduct and publish research in naval architecture.
* Provide service to the university through committee work, industry engagement and curriculum development.
* Optionally focus predominantly on teaching or hold a fractional appointment.
Who You Are – Skills and Experience
* PhD in naval architecture or a related discipline, or equivalent professional and technical experience.
* Profound understanding of naval architecture principles, methodologies and best practices.
* Experience in course development and delivery.
* Proven record of impactful research and scholarly activities.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Experience in naval engineering from navy, academic, industry or government roles.

Eligibility
Due to security requirements, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate Defence security clearance. Full working rights in Australia required; sponsorship available. Preference for citizens of a 5‑eyes nation (Australia, US, UK, Canada, New Zealand). Expected to commence in 2026.
