WSP is seeking enthusiastic and talented engineers to join the Roads team in Bristol at various grades from Assistant Engineer through to Principal Engineer. The team is based in Bristol city centre with good transport links and opportunities to work on a wide variety of rail and highway projects for a diverse client base.
Role and responsibilities
* Lead day to day technical delivery of highway consultancy services to support clients through all stages of the project life-cycle from feasibility and concept design through to planning, detailed design and construction.
* Be client facing, demonstrating a track record of delivering schemes in either the local or national transport arena.
* Manage projects to ensure coordination of multi-disciplinary inputs on projects of varying scale, complexity and value.
* Liaise with clients, build trusted relationships, proactively manage expectations and provide comprehensive advice.
* Undertake project technical lead and reviewer roles.
* Use technical ability to support others in achieving project/team goals.
* Prepare fee proposals and manage budgets for individual projects.
* Develop and deliver discrete and overall project solutions.
* Lead and manage other staff in the delivery of design drawings, standard construction details, specifications and bill of quantities, supporting tender package preparation.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and in-house QA standards/processes.
* Contribute to team resource coordination and assign the right people to the right roles.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
* Relevant knowledge and experience of highway design and/or drainage systems across project life cycles. Areas of interest include road geometry, roundabouts, at-grade and grade separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage, road restraint systems, traffic signs and road markings design.
* Experience in leading one or multiple design disciplines on relevant projects (road, public transport, active travel, public realm and/or private development).
* Ability to use, direct and check design outputs in software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfraWorks, InfoDrainage and PDS.
* Proactive change management on tasks/projects with clear communication of impacts on programme, cost and quality.
* Knowledge or experience of NEC contracts would be beneficial.
* Good communication, client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
* Chartered Civil Engineer or Incorporated Engineer with extensive post-qualification experience, or working towards Chartered status.
* Strong understanding and application of relevant design codes (e.g., Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, Local Authority design guidance) and experience in preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals, including departures from standard.
* Experience complying with Designers Duties under CDM regulations.
