Offer description

We are seeking a new Trustee to join the ADHD Embrace Board. As a Trustee you will be involved in the governance of the charity and setting the strategic direction.

What difference will you make?

We have built a strong reputation for the work we do and the impact we have on peoples' lives. ADHD is a complex neuro developmental condition, which affects 5% of the population. If those with ADHD are not properly supported, it can have devastating effects on the ADHD suffer and their families as is evidenced by the fact that 25% of the UK prison population is ADHD. Equally school exclusions and school avoidance of pupils with ADHD is very high in the UK. If people with ADHD are properly supported they can live positive and fulfilled lives and contribute to their local communities. We provide a holistic approach to supporting young people with ADHD by working with parents and professionals as well as with the young people themselves. It is our mission to support this through providing knowledge and tools, advocacy for ADHD awareness and empowerment of young people with ADHD and their families.

What are we looking for?

We feel that it is important that our Trustees should have A commitment to our organisation and its objectives A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a Trustee Strategic vision Independent judgement An ability to think creatively Work collaboratively We are looking to strengthen our Board of Trustees with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and with various life experiences. We are seeking a new Trustee that has experience having served on the Board of a small charity (income under £300,000) for at least three years. We would encourage applications from individuals that have an understanding of neuro developmental conditions such as ADHD.

What will you be doing?

ADHD Embrace is a small and impactful charity working to ensure that young people with ADHD are supported, understood and ultimately thrive. It is a support community for families and professionals living and working with young people with ADHD. The group became a registered charity five years ago with a view to ensure its operations are sustainable long term, after having operated as a voluntary group since 2002. In the last five years it has successfully raised funding in order to allow it to hire a small team of part-time employees, which is led by a full-time Executive Director. We have been through a period of significant growth and are very proud of what has been achieved to date. The key challenge for the organisation is to serve its community through the provision of relevant services bearing in mind its available resources. The Board of Trustees need to provide oversight to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the charity and to ensure it has sufficient funding to support its activities in the longer term. The Board of Trustees meet five times a year in-person (quarterly Board meetings and one strategy session) and any further meetings typically take place on-line. Trustees are encouraged to contribute to the work of the charity beyond the formal Board meetings in areas where they have expertise such as community engagement and user surveys, fundraising, digital platform, etc.
