Job Title: Assistant Accountant
Location: Cannock
Salary: £28,000 - £37,000
Higher end available for candidates with solid transactional experience and early exposure to month-end processes.
We’re excited to be recruiting for a brilliant Reed client based in Stafford — a well-established and growing business offering a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to take the next step in their finance career. They are looking for an Assistant Accountant who is eager to learn, develop and work closely with a qualified accountant who will support and train you towards full responsibility for Management Accounts.
This role is perfect for someone with a strong foundation in transactional finance who wants to advance their technical skills, get involved in month-end, and eventually present financial information at Board level. Responsibilities Will Include:
* Managing day-to-day transactional accounting including purchase ledger, sales ledger, reconciliations and payment runs.
* Supporting month-end processes including accruals, prepayments and journals, with full training provided.
* Assisting in the preparation of monthly Management Accounts and dashboards.
* Producing clear, accurate financial information for review with the qualified accountant.
* Preparing reports and commentary to develop towards presenting to senior leadership and Board members.
* Acting as a point of contact across the business for finance queries, ensuring accuracy and transparency.
* Maintaining tidy, efficient processes and contributing to system and workflow improvements.
Ideally, You Will:
* Have experience within a transactional finance or Assistant Accountant role in an SME environment.
* Be keen to progress your technical skills with hands-on support from a qualified accountant.
* Have exposure to month-end processes (not essential — training provided).
* Be confident using accounting software (Xero experience is a bonus but not essential).
* Possess strong attention to detail, good communication skills and a proactive approach to learning.
* Enjoy working independently but also thrive being part of a friendly, collaborative team.
