Capability Engineer – Future Combat Air (FCA)/GCAP
The Capability team in the Future Combat Air (FCA)/GCAP department at Leonardo UK works at the forefront of technologies and concepts underpinning 6th Gen combat air capabilities for the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), as well as other national and international initiatives.
We are seeking a driven individual to provide technical and strategic support to Multifunction Processing (MFP) and Digital Backbone (DBB) areas, enabling functional, software, and hardware capabilities for situational awareness and non-kinetic effects, primarily within the Team Tempest portfolio.
Reporting to the Head of Capability - MFP/DBB, you will help ensure convergence and coherence between FCA and Leonardo GCAP capability proposals and customer demands. You will liaise with Programme and Engineering teams across FCA and Leonardo UK Lines of Business (LoB) to incorporate customer requirements into delivery programs.
Key Responsibility Areas:
1. Provide capability techno-strategic input into FCAS-AP and FCAS-TI program delivery.
2. Support the development of MFP/DBB technology and engineering delivery roadmaps.
3. Assist GCAP Operational Analysis related to MFP/DBB capabilities.
4. Manage the ISANKE MFP Capability Demand Signal, coordinating between FCA Capability team and Engineering functions, as well as other LoBs, to maintain and update the document.
5. Lead and facilitate MFP/DBB discussions in MAP Technology Reviews, TEMPEST Quarterly, and Programme Technology Reviews, ensuring stakeholder engagement.
6. Organize and facilitate cross-LoB FAST forums, capturing lessons, actions, and data.
7. Collaborate with Heads of FCAS Technologies and Operational Capability to define technical requirements.
8. Coordinate across FCA and LoBs to promote proactive information sharing among FCAS capability stakeholders.
9. Contribute to FCAS-AP WP2 and TT TDP WP4.1 work streams, supporting engineering teams.
10. Scout for disruptive technologies, support applied research, and explore innovative technical concepts in MFP/DBB.
11. Support international development activities related to MFP/DBB.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
Degree or equivalent in Engineering or related field, with experience in R&D and stakeholder relationship management across government and industry. Experience in early technology development stages is advantageous. Knowledge of situational awareness and non-kinetic effects within the Combat Air domain is highly desirable but not essential. Ability to work collaboratively across internal and external stakeholders is crucial.
