Overview
The Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) safeguards the UK's Defence estate, protecting personnel, assets, and critical locations from crime, terrorism, espionage and sabotage. MGS specialises in a Gold Standard Security Service built on professionalism, trust and excellence. We are recruiting Security Officers to provide on‑site protection and support across MOD sites.
Responsibilities
* Ensure site safety and security – protect Defence personnel, visitors and property.
* Conduct patrols – monitor designated areas on foot or by vehicle, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
* Control access – check credentials, issue passes and escort visitors as required.
* Perform searches – conduct thorough security checks on vehicles, baggage and personnel.
* Respond to incidents – identify risks, manage security breaches and escalates as needed.
* Assist employees and visitors – provide professional and courteous support on‑site.
* Monitor security systems – operate CCTV, alarms and communication devices.
* Manage traffic and parking – control vehicle movement and ensure safe site access.
* Report and document – maintain security logs and complete detailed incident reports.
Work Pattern & Flexibility
Normal workload is 48 hours per week (43 net hours). Shifts are typically 4×12 hours or 5×9.6 hours between 0600 hrs and 2200 hrs, on a seven‑day cycle. Rostering is flexible – you will be notified of changes at least 48 hours in advance. Working hours will be confirmed during the interview.
Training & Development
New starters complete a mandatory 2‑week residential Foundation Course followed by structured on‑the‑job training. Ongoing professional development is provided via an annual online learning programme and the Workforce Development Team’s support.

Eligibility & Nationality Requirements
Applicants must be UK nationals or nationals of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein with settled or pre‑settled status, or eligible under the EU Settlement Scheme. Only UK, EU and Commonwealth nationals can apply. Sponsorship is not available for this role.
All successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check and complete the required security checks (security check level 1, baseline personnel security standard).
