Director of Secondary Education
St Oscar Romero Catholic Academy Trust is recruiting. We are a growing Trust supported by the Archdiocese of Southwark to grow to thirty-five schools. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Central Services team.

* Contract length: Permanent
* Salary: Highly competitive + benefits
* Location: Flexible; work will be carried out at different schools within the Trust. Head office at Shirley Court, Croydon, CR9 5AS.
* Accountable to: Chief Executive Officer
Ideal Candidate
* Extensive experience as part of a secondary school senior leadership team, including at Headteacher level.
* Recent success at leading school improvement and raising education standards for children.
* Ability to inspire, empower and challenge staff to lead the next stage of a school’s journey.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
* Uphold, develop, and promote the Trust’s mission, vision, and values.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of the five‑year strategic plan.
* Produce reports for the CEO, Trust Board, and external partners on educational quality and the impact of school improvement activities.
* Ensure effective delivery of Trust‑wide projects to achieve optimal outcomes for all children.
* Develop, deliver, and promote the Trust’s positive reputation and support broader system leadership.
* Develop and deliver policies and guidance aligned with statutory requirements, ensuring consistent implementation across all schools.
* Apply knowledge of statutory and regulatory compliance across all schools.
* Lead strategic responsibility for Trust‑wide areas as allocated by the CEO.
* Provide advice and guidance to school leaders on safeguarding.
* Plan, organise and facilitate high‑quality professional development for Trust staff.
Strategic Leadership for Secondary Schools
* Work with the CEO to deliver a long‑term secondary strategy.
* Challenge and support secondary school leaders to deliver outstanding Catholic education.
* Support the CEO and Headteachers in setting and achieving challenging performance targets and other KPIs.
* Assist with all secondary scrutiny processes and self‑evaluation work.
* Ensure consistency of approach and overall effectiveness across the Trust.
* Be a line manager for secondary Headteachers.
* Develop and deliver the secondary improvement strategy, action plan and framework.
* Ensure statutory compliance across all secondary schools.
* Support headteachers and leaders in effective delivery of improvement plans.
Accountability, Scrutiny and Quality Assurance
* Manage the approach with an understanding of the demands experienced by school leaders.
* Support the CEO with secondary scrutiny processes, including academic outcomes and safeguarding.
* Support the CEO with quality assurance processes (internal and external reviews).
* Provide performance reports to the Standards Committee, including progress to targets and prompts for improvement.
* Monitor and report on key data (attendance, persistent absentees, suspensions, exclusions, self‑evaluation, pupil characteristics).
Safeguarding Children
* The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
* All staff must comply with statutory policies and procedures on safeguarding and child protection, including enhanced DBS checks.
Confidentiality
* Staff must maintain confidentiality and comply with Trust policies, Data Protection, and Freedom of Information.
General
* Responsibilities are subject to the Statement of Conditions of Employment and may vary without changing the general character of the post.
* Post holder will adopt an agreed flexible working pattern to fulfil all relevant functions.
