Artifex Interior Systems is pleased to confirm the below opportunity within our business:

Injection Mould Toolroom Maintenance Engineer

Please note this position will be on a 3-shift rotation, alternating weekly between afternoons (14:00-22:00), mornings (06:00-14:00) and nights (22:00-06:00).

Main purpose of the job

Provide advanced technical support for the maintenance, optimisation, and continuous improvement of injection mould tools, ensuring tools consistently meet performance, safety, quality, and reliability standards.

Act as the key technical link between Toolroom, Process Engineering, and Production, resolving complex tooling issues and ensuring tools are fully capable for efficient manufacturing

Support Technicians and Setters by providing technical guidance, sharing expertise and building capability within the wider team.

Ensure all tooling‑related activities are carried out with high standards of accuracy, documentation, and professionalism.

Contribute to the introduction, commissioning, and ongoing maturity of new and refurbished mould tools.


Main missions and results

Technical Ownership & Tool Performance

• Diagnose and resolve complex faults with injection mould tools, including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling and sensor‑related issues.

• Conduct advanced toolroom maintenance activities such as strip‑downs, wear assessment, refurbishment, adjustment and functional testing.

• Validate tooling readiness before returning to production, ensuring correct setup, alignment, sensor operation, cooling performance, and first‑off approval requirements.

• Ensure tools meet production requirements for cycle time, repeatability, dimensional quality, and robustness.


Continuous Improvement & Engineering Support

• Lead troubleshooting of recurring tooling issues, carrying out structured investigations and driving corrective and preventative actions.

• Work with Toolmakers to implement modifications, improvements and engineering changes that enhance tooling performance and reduce downtime.

• Support SMED, tool‑change optimisation and process improvement activities to improve efficiency and tooling reliability.

• Assist with commissioning of new and modified tools, supporting trial runs, capability checks, and pre‑production approvals.


Collaboration, Capability & Communication

• Provide guidance and technical support to Tooling & Process Technicians, Setters and Production teams when resolving tooling concerns.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Toolroom, Quality, and Production to ensure tooling issues are understood, prioritised and resolved effectively.

• Communicate tooling status, risks, repair needs and improvement opportunities clearly and accurately.

• Contribute to a positive working environment by sharing knowledge and supporting consistent standards across the team.


Documentation, Traceability & Quality Control

• Maintain accurate records of tool repairs, inspections, investigations, component changes and performance history.

• Ensure all changes to tooling, processes or settings are properly documented, validated and communicated.

• Update and manage tooling asset information, including spares usage, condition tracking and repair logs.

• Support internal and external audits, customer enquiries, and quality investigations with clear and precise technical documentation.


Preferred skills and experience

• Strong background in injection moulding is essential for this position, ideally including strip‑down, investigation, refurbishment and precision adjustment.

• Understanding of moulding processes and how tool condition influences part quality, cycle time and process stability.

• Working knowledge of tool construction, including cavity/core design, gating, cooling, venting, ejection systems, and alignment principles.

• Mechanical/Toolmaking apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Tooling or Mechanical is a significant advantage.

• Experience in automotive manufacturing environments.

• Familiarity with toolroom equipment such as grinders, EDM, polishing and inspection equipment.

• Lifting/rigging, overhead crane or FLT licences are advantageous.

• Strong sense of ownership, able to prioritise workload and respond effectively to tooling or process issues.

• Practical, hands‑on approach with high levels of accuracy, care and attention to detail in tool handling and documentation.

• Able to work independently and support others in resolving technical issues.
