Paralegal Court of Protection
Location: Horncastle, Lincolnshire
Salary: Dependent on experience
Hours: Full time, Monday-Friday, 9.00am-5.15pm (36.25 hours per week)
A well-established and respected law firm is seeking an Experienced Court of Protection Paralegal to join its busy Private Client team in Horncastle. This is a fee-earning role offering the opportunity to work on a wide range of Court of Protection matters in a supportive and professional environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will manage and assist with matters relating to the property and financial affairs of clients under the Court of Protection. This will include:
* Opening files and handling initial enquiries
* Preparing deputyship applications and liaising with the Court of Protection
* Drafting and sending routine correspondence
* Visiting clients and liaising with deputies, attorneys, and representatives
* Maintaining up-to-date and accurate schedules, spreadsheets, and financial records
* Liaising with care homes and family members
* Data inputting, including processing bank statements
* Managing clients personal affairs on an ongoing basis
* Assisting with annual reports and updating registers
Some travel will be required, so a full driving licence and use of a vehicle with business insurance is essential.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Delivering ongoing support to existing clients
* Working with colleagues to develop new business opportunities
* Promoting and growing the Private Client department and encouraging cross-referrals across the firm
* Meeting fee income targets and agreed objectives
* Keeping up to date with changes in law and practice relevant to the role
* Maintaining and enhancing legal skills through ongoing learning
* Managing financial aspects of matters, including billing and cash flow
* Recording time spent on client and internal work accurately
* Ensuring compliance with quality and risk management procedures
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
* A law degree or substantial relevant legal experience (Court of Protection experience desirable)
* Strong knowledge of Private Client work
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong word processing skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to deadlines
* A proactive, compassionate, and professional approach
Experience with SOS Connect case management software would be advantageous.
