Medical Laboratory Assistant

The closing date is 17 December 2025

We are pleased to offer an excellent opportunity for a motivated and reliable Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to join the Pathology Department at Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

As part of our Biochemistry Laboratory team, you will play a vital role in ensuring high standards of patient care through the accurate and timely processing of clinical specimens.

Working within our combined reception area, you will be trained to handle biological samples such as blood, urine, and faeces, following strict Health & Safety protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.

What we're looking for:

* A good standard of general education
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* High attention to detail and a willingness to learn new tasks
* Previous laboratory or healthcare experience (desirable)

Main duties of the job

Your main responsibilities will include the preparation, labelling, and data entry of clinical specimens, all of which require a careful and methodical approach.

You'll be joining a UKAS-accredited department (ISO 15189) and an IBMS-accredited training laboratory, offering excellent development opportunities and a structured, professional environment to grow your career.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. For more information, see 'Welsh Language Guidance' in the documents right at the bottom.
