Hays are recruiting on behalf of a respected and expanding plumbing contractor based in Birmingham. The business delivers a wide range of residential andmercial projects and is known for its reliable service, quality workmanship, and strong relationships with clients and suppliers. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are now seeking a Plumbing Estimator to join theirmercial team.
Your new role
As the Plumbing Estimator, you will play a key role in supporting the tendering and pre‑construction process. You will be responsible for preparing accurate andpetitive cost estimates for plumbing packages across a variety of projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Buyers and Directors, you will analyse drawings, specifications, and supplier quotations to build clear and reliable cost submissions.Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Reviewing tender documents, drawings, and specifications
2. Producing detailed plumbing estimates and bills of quantities
3. Sending out enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors
4. Analysing returned quotations and assessing value
5. Preparing cost summaries, take‑offs, and material schedules
6. Working with themercial team to support bid submissions
7. Identifying risks, opportunities, and value‑engineering options
8. Maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of plumbing materials, labour rates, and market pricing
What you'll need to succeed
Thepany is open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds. You will be successful if you have:
9. A solid understanding of plumbing systems, materials, and installation methods
10. Experience as an estimator, plumbing buyer, project coordinator, or plumber looking to step into amercial role
11. Strong numerical and analytical skills
12. Goodmunication and relationship‑building ability
13. Confidence using IT systems, spreadsheets, and estimating or procurement software
14. Amercially minded approach with excellent attention to detail
15. The ability to manage multiple tenders and meet deadlines
What you'll get in return
