About the Water Utilities Division
Mott MacDonald’s Water Utilities Division is the centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of rivers and coastal environments. Our multidisciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design.
Overview of the Role
We are seeking a Senior/Principal Civil Engineer with a background in water supply, wastewater, water resources, dams and/or river engineering to strengthen our technical teams in the south and south‑east. This professional opportunity offers the chance to work on a wide range of water‑related projects in the UK and worldwide.
* Lead the design of major water supply infrastructure to ensure sustainable water security in the region.
* Contribute to innovative grey and blue‑green sewer solutions to reduce wastewater spills.
* Develop climate‑resilient flood protection for our communities whilst safeguarding habitats including rare chalk streams.
* Deliver cutting‑edge water treatment plants to improve water quality in rivers and coastlines.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Be responsible for the delivery of projects, coordinating project team(s) to ensure excellent technical delivery within budget and programme.
* Produce and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and reports, proactively managing design risk to deliver constructable solutions.
* Represent the company in meetings, building strong relationships with clients that will enhance our reputation and help secure further work.
* Deliver projects in close partnership with clients and contractors.
* Contribute to technical excellence and commercial success through forecasting and risk management, and the production of bids and proposals.
* Work to Mott MacDonald’s global standards and review Health, Safety and Welfare alongside environmental impact.
Candidate Specification
We are looking for a driven individual with a strong technical background in water and the desire to contribute to projects that improve society and transform our clients’ businesses and our communities.
Essential
* Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution.
* Proven ability to deliver complex technical projects, ensuring compliance with relevant quality assurance and technical standards and supporting the development of less experienced staff.
* Demonstrable technical experience in design and the management of design teams.
* Strong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi‑disciplinary teams including environmental specialists, geotechnical, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers.
* Good understanding of designers’ responsibilities under CDM.
Desirable
* Able to travel to other offices and sites, as required.
* Track record in building teams and capability of junior staff.
* Experience in preparing successful bids and in undertaking client engagement.
