Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Canine Handler to join our security team. The successful candidate will be responsible for working alongside trained detection dogs to ensure the safety and security of premises, personnel, and assets. This role offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about working with animals and maintaining high standards of security. The Canine Handler will be instrumental in conducting surveillance, loss prevention, and emergency response activities, contributing to a secure environment.
Responsibilities
* Conduct regular patrols using detection dogs to monitor designated areas for suspicious activity or security breaches
* Assist in loss prevention efforts by identifying and deterring theft or unauthorised access
* Operate CCTV systems to support surveillance operations and gather visual evidence when necessary
* Respond promptly to security alerts and incidents, utilising canine assistance as required
* Perform first aid in emergency situations until professional medical help arrives
* Maintain the health, training, and welfare of the detection dogs, ensuring they are well-prepared for their duties
* Complete detailed reports on daily patrols, incidents, and canine activities for record-keeping purposes
* Collaborate with other security personnel to develop effective security strategies and procedures
Skills
* Proven experience or training in surveillance, loss prevention, or related security fields is preferred
* Knowledge of CCTV operation and monitoring techniques
* Ability to work effectively with detection dogs and understand canine behaviour
* Strong observational skills with keen attention to detail
* Good communication skills for reporting incidents clearly and accurately
* Basic first aid knowledge to handle minor injuries or medical emergencies involving personnel or animals
* Organised and disciplined approach to routine patrols and documentation
* Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond swiftly during emergencies
Essential Requirements
* NASDU (or equivalent) accredited dog handler
* Fully trained and licenced General Purpose (GP) dog
* Valid SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guard Licence
* Own transport and fully compliant welfare vehicle/unit
* Excellent knowledge of dog handling, control and welfare standards
* Strong communication and report-writing skills
* Reliable, professional and confident working alone
