Job Overview
The Practice Development Team aims to foster an environment that encourages learning and the enhancement of clinical skills, recognising that professional development continues beyond initial registration. The Clinical Practice Educator works in a supernumerary capacity within clinical settings 80% of the time, providing direct care and supporting staff development through skill‑building and on‑site learning programmes.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Working alongside qualified and unqualified nursing staff to deliver enhanced nursing skills at all levels.
* Delivering teaching sessions and facilitating learning that results in continued staff development.
* Facilitating appropriate training to ensure safe, competent clinical practice.
* Supporting ward managers and matrons in risk management, quality and safety initiatives.
* Assisting with the development, delivery and evaluation of nursing training programmes, including OSCE preparation for pre‑registration nurses.
* Participating in change management and PDSA cycle reviews to achieve Trust objectives.
* Tracking competence improvements and providing feedback to practice development and education teams.
* Co‑ordinating recruitment, retention and workforce planning activities with education teams and HEIs where appropriate.
Key Qualifications
* Registered Nurse – NMC
* Degree level (or equivalent) education
* Knowledge of nursing education and development
* Professional advocate certificate
* Completed Trust Preceptor training
Required Experience
* Series 6 acute nursing experience (or equivalent)
* Experience supporting learners of all levels in practice
* Experience supervising and assessing learners
* Experience designing and delivering training or development programmes for nurses
* Experience delivering clinical support programmes
* Experience teaching or presenting to others
* Experience acting as a preceptor during transition periods
* Experience managing change and quality improvement projects
