Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery and effective operation of Community Point of Care Testing (POCT) services across the Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) network. The post holder will play a key role within the Lab - Kit/Community team, ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient use of POCT equipment and services in community settings. You will assist in the implementation, maintenance, and quality assurance of POCT systems in line with national and local standards. Working closely with laboratory, clinical, and community colleagues, you will provide technical support, training, and guidance to ensure compliance with governance and quality management frameworks. The role requires excellent organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills, with a commitment to improving patient care through reliable and accessible diagnostic testing.
Main Duties of the Job
* Support the maintenance and operation of Point of Care (POC) equipment across Lab‑Kit and other community sites, ensuring all protocols, quality standards, and safety requirements are met.
* Work in accordance with departmental policies and SOPs, maintaining high levels of patient safety and service reliability.
* Travel regularly to multiple sites, control stock of consumables, and maintain effective communication within the POCT team to optimise daily workflow.
* Assist senior staff in monitoring and troubleshooting quality issues, participate in internal and external audits, and support IQC/EQA processes.
* Contribute to evaluating and implementing new POCT technologies, ensuring services remain efficient and compliant.
* Collaborate with colleagues to achieve and maintain ISO accreditation and adherence to national POCT guidelines.

* For those without a suitable level 3 qualification the successful candidate would be expected (and supported by BSPS) to follow a course of study or training to gain an equivalent level qualification e.g. NVQ / QCF level 3 / IBMS Certificate of Achievement.
Desirable Criteria
* Relevant Science Degree.
