Job Title: Electoral Canvasser Location: Ashford, Kent Contract: Temporary – 1 Month Hours: 27.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday (5.5 hours per day, to be completed by 4pm) Start Date: October 2025 About the Role: We are looking to recruit a Canvasser to assist Ashford Borough Council’s Electoral Services team during the annual canvass. You will visit households across the borough to collect and confirm information for the electoral register. You’ll be provided with canvass forms to complete with residents, or if no one is home, you will post the forms through the property letterbox. This role is essential in ensuring our electoral register is accurate and up to date. Responsibilities: Visit designated households to collect and check household enquiry forms. Provide guidance to residents on completing forms. Leave calling cards/additional forms with freepost envelopes where no contact is made. Return completed forms to the Electoral Services office weekly and provide progress updates. Record information about new or no-longer-existing properties. Maintain confidentiality of all information handled. Work independently while adhering to training and safety procedures.Requirements: Full UK driving licence. Access to own vehicle with business insurance (essential). Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to use tact and deal effectively with the public. Ability to work independently and use initiative. Commitment to equality, diversity, and confidentiality.
