Job Description

The Woodland Trust is looking for a Principal Data Engineer to help us transform our data management processes, integration processes, and support data architecture.

The Role:

1. Lead the data transformation initiative within a complex environment.
2. Design and implement a data model in relation to our conservation efforts and organisational goals.
3. Lead the design of integration patterns to ensure data flows between solutions can be maintained and supported.
4. Develop key relationships with business units and technology departments to ensure smooth operation.
5. Establish and facilitate a robust data governance framework to ensure data accuracy, privacy, compliance, and optimal usage.
6. Oversee the smooth operation of legacy systems whilst transitioning to new data management technologies.
7. Establish and lead an observability strategy for data and the integration platform.
8. Support the comprehensive data strategy that addresses data maturity, quality, governance, and capability.
9. Establish a foundation for data analytics and AI, positioning the organisation to leverage data-driven insights for conservation efforts.

The role includes a mix of working from home and at our main office in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Visits to Grantham would be required no more than once a month on average.

The Candidate:

We are looking for candidates with the following experience:

* Leading a data transformation initiative within complex environments.
* Knowledge of enterprise data architecture and data modelling.
* Leading projects and designing enterprise integration patterns for internal and external solutions.
* Strong communication skills to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, business units, and technology departments.
* Managing transitions from legacy systems to modern data platforms.
* Skills using Azure data technologies and practical application knowledge.
* Designing, building, and maintaining integrations using Azure Integration Services.
* Knowledge of DevOps practices for data and integrations.
* Developing and implementing data strategies to enhance data quality, governance, and management practices.
* Experience in the environmental, charity, or fundraising sectors is desirable.
