Lead Application Engineer – Naval to join the Power Conversion & Storage Naval Department in the United Kingdom.
Role Overview
The Lead Application Engineer – Naval will lead the technical development of proposal solutions for complex naval power and propulsion applications. You will play a key role in creating competitive, high‑quality technical solutions for naval and defence customers worldwide. Working closely with engineering, commercial, sourcing, and customer teams, you help turn customer requirements into robust, compliant, and compelling proposals. Your expertise shapes bid strategy, supports customer engagement, and helps position the business for success in technically challenging and strategically important opportunities.
Responsibilities
* Leading the technical development of proposals for complex naval and submarine power and propulsion systems
* Engaging with customers to understand requirements, interfaces, and performance expectations
* Creating clear, compliant technical proposals, including specifications, deviations, and supporting commentary
* Building costed technical solutions with internal teams and external suppliers
* Identifying technical risks, performance considerations, and solution differentiators across each opportunity
* Collaborating with commercial, engineering, and sourcing teams to strengthen value propositions and bid quality
* Supporting sales and commercial colleagues with technical guidance throughout the bid lifecycle
Special Role Requirements
* Able to travel as needed for customer meetings, project support, and business activities
* Able to complete background checks and suitability assessments as part of the hiring process
* Eligible for UK security clearance
Skills for Success
* The ability to develop technical solutions for power, propulsion, or electrical systems
* The capability to work confidently with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders in a technical lead role
* An understanding of electrical power systems, power electronics, converters, and motor control
* An expertise in application engineering, design engineering, or technical proposal development
* A keen interest in naval, marine, defence, or submarine systems
* The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and attention to detail
* Strong communication, problem‑solving, and documentation skills
Location
Permanent position based in Rugby, United Kingdom. Hybrid working model gives flexibility to work from office and from home.
