Overview

Personal Assistant required for a 69-year-old male. Salary: £13.50 per hour. 18 hours per week and approximately 71 miles per week at 45p per mile. Flexible hours based on the individual’s planned activities. Any unused hours may be banked and used in subsequent weeks.


Responsibilities

* Take the individual to/from Parc Y Bocs on Tuesday mornings to attend weekly meetings.
* Drive; the PA will need to be experienced and confident at driving.
* Support the individual to keep a memory diary of contacts and activities undertaken.
* Support the individual to engage in activities that stimulate him, utilise his skills and interests, contribute to and engage with the community.
* Support the individual to go swimming and attend local groups (e.g., men’s shed).
* Support visits to art galleries, museums, theatre, the beach and other places of interest.
* Support enjoyment of interests in woodwork, art and gardening.
* Encourage and motivate the individual to try new activities that provide mental and physical stimulation.
* Assist with managing small amounts of money for shopping as requested.
* Assist with loading/unloading the mobility scooter in/out of the car.
* Offer companionship, reassurance and emotional support, including managing anxiety or social situations where the individual may speak before thinking.
* Assist with meal preparation, including preparing vegetables and other ingredients for cooking or baking.
* Directly support the employer to gain independence and social interaction in the community.
* Provide companionship at home, engage in conversation, and support social interaction.
* Support attendance at appointments and ensure safety during working hours.
* Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by the employer during working hours.
* Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and maintain safeguarding awareness; report concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council as applicable.
* Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority if medical assistance is needed.


Relationships and Working Environment

* Ability to develop a supportive and caring relationship with the employer.
* Undertake duties in a friendly and helpful manner and, when necessary, contact people on behalf of the employer.
* Working in the employer’s home, supporting access to facilities and community activities.


Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills

* Caring, patient and friendly.
* Responsible, reliable and honest.
* Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
* Good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
* Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.
* Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
* Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
* Ability to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
* A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required. This depends on needs and distance from the employer.
* Be prepared to have business use on vehicle insurance to operate the vehicle during work hours.
* Be prepared to undergo training to best meet the employer’s needs.
