Development Officer – Literacy and Numeracy Development Officer
Fixed term until 29/06/2027 at the Tynecastle Learning Community (Balgreen Primary School, Craiglockhart Primary School, Dalry Primary School, Stenhouse Primary School and Tynecastle High School).
Salary: £55,155 per annum. Hours: 35 per week, Monday to Friday.
About the Role
The Literacy and Numeracy Development Officer will work as part of the Tynecastle Learning Community to raise attainment across a range of schools. You will deliver targeted interventions in literacy and numeracy, plan strategically, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and colleagues to support pupils’ learning and well‑being.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide targeted literacy and numeracy interventions across the Tynecastle schools.
* Plan lessons and strategies strategically to support pupil attainment.
* Collaborate with teachers and staff to embed effective practices.
* Build positive relationships quickly with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
* Manage time effectively to deliver the program within the 35‑hour week.
Qualifications and Experience
* Committed, enthusiastic teacher with experience in raising attainment.
* Experience of targeted interventions in literacy or numeracy is highly desirable.
* Flexible and solution‑focused approach to teaching and support.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to form relationships quickly.
* Strong time‑management skills.

Salary in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An overseas criminal record check will be required for extended absences abroad. A conditional offer of employment will be dependent on satisfactory pre‑employment checks.
