All about the Role

Children Missing Education Officers act to fulfil the Local Authority's statutory duties under 436A of the Education Act 1996, to make arrangements to identify and locate Children Missing Education (CME).

The ChildrenMissing in Education Officers sits alongside the Attendance Service, who's over archingrole is to ensure that children access education.

What will you be doing?

You will be contributingto the Local Authorities statutory duties in relation to Children Missing Education (CME), working closely with professionals across Children's services. Where you will takealead onCME investigations to locate children believed to be missing from education.

You will act as akey contact for schools and children's services on matters related to children missing education. Effective information sharing is critical for the role to ensure resources are used effectively to support the early lives of young children to help prevent poor outcomes.

You will be expected to take prompt action, asearly intervention is crucial to discharging this duty effectively in ensuring that children are safe and receiving suitable education.


About you

It is essential that applicants are educated to GCSE standard orequivalent with 5 GCSE's Grade C or above including English and Mathematics.

* Have in depth understanding of the Local Authority's safeguarding duties and responsibilities, with the ability to apply them within the remit of the role.
* Understandingof the needs of children, parents and schools. Working with them to ensure that children are safe and receiving suitable education.
* Be able to engage and work closelywith colleagues, parents, and professionals from external organisations.
* Have a strong resilience when working with conflicting priorities in a challenging and fast paced environment with tight deadlines.
* Have the ability to understand relevant legislation and guidance and apply it appropriatelyto the duties of the post.

Full training and a supportive inductionwill be given to thesuccessful candidate.
