Front Of House Security Officer – Manchester
Reporting to: Manchester Site Security Manager. Position: Permanent/Core. Rota Pattern: Monday to Friday only. Hours: 12 hours per shift (07:00 to 19:00). Pay: £14.25 an hour.
Qualifications
* Skills for Security trained & certificated
* SIA licensed
* First Aid trained & certificated
* ACT Awareness certified (desirable)
* IT literate
* Corporate Customer Services background (desirable)
* Ability to use MS Windows and MS Office applications
* A sound understanding of electronic security Access Control & CCTV systems (desirable)

Responsibilities & Specific Tasks
* Protection of Life, Property, Prevention of Crime, Loss and Waste
* Develop and maintain first‑class customer service relations with client staff, visitors, business partners, key stakeholders and the site security team
* Provide assistance, directions and guidance to visitors upon arrival
* Attain and maintain a high level of knowledge of the Site Assignment Instructions and Emergency Procedures, including building lock downs, shelter‑in‑place, emergency evacuation and first‑aid response in line with training capacity
* Log and transfer calls, relay messages and provide guidance and advice to visitors, clients, contractors and staff
* Escort contractors and cleaning operatives in line with agreed procedures
* Conduct fire watch and loss prevention patrols (internal & external) in line with policy and procedures
* Provide ad‑hoc cover for BNY receptionist during breaks and support on‑site client events
* React positively and professionally in support of security operations and emergency situations
* Complete site induction training to satisfactory standard, including the Op Warden Trigger Plan and BNY Unannounced (Dawn Raids) training module within the designated period, and other Corporate Security training as required
* Complete satisfactory probationary assessment as part of personal training and development plan
* Maintain a robust high‑visibility security posture to deter, detect and respond to crime
* Present a reassuring face‑to‑face profile at the front entrance to ensure premises are safe and secure
* Monitor and control access to the front entrance, ensuring only authorised personnel are allowed on site
* Maintain a visible presence at the front entrance, deterring potential security threats through proactive observation and engagement
* Provide directions, guidance and information to individuals seeking assistance
* Collaborate with the Security Control Room (SCR) and all security personnel for seamless coordination and effective response to emergencies
* Complete incident reports and maintain accurate records of security‑related activities
* Assist in the coordination of special events or functions, ensuring appropriate security measures are in place
* Maintain the highest standards of professionalism at all times
* Pinpoint suspicious behaviour and take remedial non‑confrontational action
* Observe the perimeter, main entrance and ground‑floor reception areas for suspicious activity and opportunities to assist colleagues and guests
* Report any unusual activity immediately
* Respond as part of a coordinated team to routine duties and immediate safety, risk and emergency situations
* Provide immediate response to any incident, giving confidence to others that the situation is being dealt with effectively
* Apply excellent situational awareness to maintain a high level of security and risk awareness, exercising caution and good judgement at all times
* Use observation and surveillance skills for risk and threat identification
* Apply SCaN principles and Power of Hello to counter hostile reconnaissance risk
* Report suspicious activity promptly and accurately
* Understand guidance and response relating to crowd control, trespass, aggravated trespass, static protest and protest‑in‑place situations
* Understand social‑media risk and apply NPSA guidance relating to the CALM approach
* Act immediately in support of emergency response, controlling the situation, providing assistance and coordinating with emergency services
* Fulfil loading bay rotation duties for receipt of mail, parcels, courier deliveries to BNY
* Operate a mail X‑ray scanner, identifying suspicious packages per PAS 97 Mail Screening and Security Specification (backup service only)
* Be prepared to step up to cover Duty Supervisor or CCTV Controller role under direction and supervision of site Security Manager
* Maintain appropriate and timely contact with both the client and Mitie management as per specific instructions and routine duties
* Follow all routine site operating procedures
* Maintain communications with BNY Global Corporate Security management and London Command Centre (LCC) in support of local and wider regional operations
