The Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting function, including assisting with management and statutory accounts, maintaining ledgers, reconciliations, and recording payroll for all three companies. This role involves supervising, mentoring, and training other team members when required, as well as supporting the Chief Finance Officer and company secretary in executing the department responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Duties of the post include, but are not limited to:
* Line Management and development responsibility for the role of Accounts Receivable and Payable Specialist.
* Prepare accurate and timely management accounts, investigate variances, and provide insightful analysis.
* Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations by submitting VAT returns and maintaining proper records.
* Manage income and expenditure, variance analysis, profit and loss, balance sheet, KPI reporting and asset register.
* Oversee the sales invoice process, resolve invoice discrepancies, and manage credit control and debt recovery processes.
* Supervise creditors processing and payment of suppliers.
* Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities, including balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
* Assist with the coordination and completion of annual audits and review financial reports as necessary.
* Continuously improve accounting systems, procedures, and initiate corrective actions.
* Helping to develop business strategies and advising on the financial implications of business decisions.
* Provide general support to the Finance and Technical Support Teams, and perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Finance Officer including company secretarial duties
* Prepare cash flow forecasts and provide regular updates to the Chief Finance Officer.
* Lead the annual audit process, coordinating with external auditors and reviewing financial reports as necessary.
* Maintains accurate payroll records and liaises with the CFO on monthly payroll processing.
* Assist with Companies House filings and support the Chief Finance Officer in company secretarial duties.
* Support the continuous improvement of financial systems and reporting processes, including the adoption of AI-assisted and data analytics tools.
Person Specification
* Recognized accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) – fully qualified or part-qualified with significant relevant experience
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar accounting role, preferably in a multi-company environment
* Proficient in preparing monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts.
* Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable laws, codes, and regulations
* A proactive approach to technology and process improvement, with an openness to adopting AI-assisted tools and data analytics to enhance financial reporting
* Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero) and advanced Excel skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data and reporting
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
* Supervisory and coaching skills to mentor and develop team members.
* Professionalism and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook)
* Adaptability to learn and utilize new systems and technologies as required.
* Understanding of customer service principles and the ability to deliver a positive experience
