1st Step Solutions are supporting a building services engineering company who have an opportunity for an Accounts Assistant based in Grays, Essex.
About:
Our client is a Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) solutions provider, committed to delivering innovative, high-quality engineering solutions across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
Role Overview
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounts Assistant/Processor to join our finance team in Essex. The successful candidate will support the accounting and finance functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, reporting, and administration.
Key Responsibilities
* Process and record purchase invoices, sales invoices, and expense claims accurately.
* Maintain supplier and customer accounts, ensuring timely reconciliations.
* Assist with payroll administration and timesheet verification as required.
* Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
* Monitor and follow up on outstanding debts and payments.
* Assist with VAT returns, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
* Provide administrative support to the finance team and other departments as needed.
* Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
Essential:
* Previous experience in accounts or bookkeeping, preferably within construction or engineering sectors.
* Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Xero, Sage, QuickBooks).
* Strong numerical and analytical skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
* Good organisational and time management abilities.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
* Experience using COINS software
Desirable:
* Knowledge of MEP or construction industry accounting practices.
* Experience preparing VAT returns and reconciling accounts.
* AAT qualified or studying towards accounting qualifications.
