Senior Healthcare Support Worker

A Senior Health Care Support Worker (SHCSW) is a core member of the team delivering direct care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan. Dove Unit is a specialist haematology ward caring for patients who have stem cell transplants, malignant haematological conditions; the Unit delivers systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT).

Please note this vacancy is part time 18.5 hours per week

At the time of advertising, this role does not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK. For this reason, we are unable to sponsor anyone for a skilled worker visa for this role.

Main duties of the job

You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare, or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse, in accordance with the Trust values.

There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, and training will be provided to ensure you have the required skills specific to this area of work.

Job responsibilities

1. Appropriately obtain consent to physical examination, respect and maintain the patients privacy, dignity (and comfort as far as practicable), and comply with infection prevention and control procedures.
2. Recognise when a clinical situation is beyond individual capability or competence and upscale appropriately.
3. Provide information and advice appropriate to the needs, priorities and concerns of individuals.
4. Acknowledge and respect the decisions made by individuals concerning their health and wellbeing in relation to cancer, cancer treatments, survivorship and late effects care.
5. Demonstrate understanding of the individual and show empathy for the impact of their cancer diagnosis.
6. Respond sensitively to individual preferences and needs and uphold and safeguard individuals interests.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Level 3 (SCQF - 6): City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3 or BTEC National Diploma.
* GCSE A*-D in English Language, Maths/ Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Math's or equivalent.
* Equivalent experience together with Level 2 qualification & working towards Level 3
* Care Certification - 15 National Standards https://www.skillsforhealth.org.uk/resources/the-care-certificate/
* Level 2 QCF Diploma in Clinical Healthcare support Or Level 2 NVQ in Healthcare Health & Social Care Or Level 2 in Health & Social care (NVQ, QCF, RQF)
* Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support


Experience

* Experience or working in healthcare and ability to demonstrate best practice and act as a role model
* Evidence of ability to work as a member of a team.
* Prior experience as a support worker
* Complete of observation training
