We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to support our Vehicle CAN Bus Reverse Engineering efforts. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in identifying, capturing, and analyzing vehicle CAN data to enable integration with our telematics products. You will work closely with our engineers to support the capture of vehicle communication, enabling the extraction of critical data points.
What you'll do
* Support vehicle data acquisition efforts through on-site and off-site testing (garages, customer sites, test tracks).
* Set up and operate data logging tools to capture vehicle CAN bus communications.
* Perform structured testing activities and maintain accurate, detailed records of test conditions, results, and observations.
* Organise, label, and manage collected data logs for engineering analysis.
* Use provided tools/scripts to conduct preliminary reviews of captured data.
* Follow detailed engineering test instructions and procedures to ensure safety and repeatability.
* Assist in vehicle-based firmware release testing and troubleshooting.
* S upport wider team with any other work items assigned.
Qualifications / Experience
Required
* HNC / Level 4 qualification in Automotive Technology, Electronics, Mechatronics, or equivalent hands-on experience.
* Understanding of basic automotive systems and diagnostics (e.g., OBD-II).
* Experience with data logging or diagnostic tools (e.g., CAN loggers, scan tools).
* High attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
* Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for reverse engineering.
* Ability to perform hands-on tasks on vehicles for extended periods.
* Legally authorized to work in the EU/Europe.

* Ability to work collaboratively across engineering teams
* Willingness and flexibility to travel as required
* Knowledge of Controller Area Network (CAN) bus protocols, SAE J1939 and SAE J1979
* Basic experience using CAN analysis tools (Vetor CANoe, SavvyCAN, Vehicle Spy, Wireshark, or similar)
* Basic programming/scripting (Python, C/C++, CAPL) for data handling and automation
* Understanding of hexadecimal, bitwise operations, and interpreting raw CAN data.
* Hands-on experience with vehicle diagnostic tools (e.g., Autel, Texa, Bosch).
