Job title: Senior Stress Engineer
Job Type: Permanent | Salary: £45,000 – £64,000 per annum + Benefits | Location: Near Southampton | Hours: 37 per week | Start date: Subject to clearance
The Role
As the Senior Stress Engineer you will provide support to the multi‑disciplined engineering team in the delivery of client projects and workstreams. You will report directly into the Engineering Lead, responsible for ensuring and executing design analysis that is fit for purpose to support delivery to quality, schedule and budget.
Main Responsibilities
* Work alongside design engineers to ensure designs are fit for purpose and identify design solutions to solve problems identified by structural analysis performed.
* Perform analysis of engineering designs, primarily by hand calculation, backed up with FE analysis if required, across multiple projects.
* Author and/or check design analysis documentation.
* Be the internal focal point for design analysis completed internally and by subcontractors.
* Positively influence designs during conceptual/scheme stages to ensure structural integrity while considering improvements such as design for manufacture and cost reduction.
* Approach analysis pragmatically and efficiently, working with engineers to ensure design for manufacture is realised.
* Provide scheduling and tasking information to Lead Engineers, Project Engineering Managers and Project Managers to support project delivery.
* Provide mentoring and assistance to engineers undertaking design analysis tasks.
* Support the creation of standard operating procedures to introduce and develop consistent analysis methods and rules across the engineering department, providing internal training as required.
* Support business change via effective change management processes in the context of a nuclear engineering fast‑paced regulatory environment.
Experience / Qualifications
* All candidates must hold either a Degree, HNC or HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
* Must have a demonstrable track record in stress analysis and hand calculation using Mathcad.
* Must have a strong working knowledge of BS EN 13001 or BS 2573 parts 1 & 2 and Eurocode 3.
* Have experience in analysis/simulation of structures using one or more of the following software packages: ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN.
* Have worked within a highly regulated environment preferably Nuclear or Defence, Aerospace, Medical/Pharmaceutical sectors etc.
Other Desirable Experience / Quals
* Chartered Engineer (IMechE, IET) - Desirable.
* Experience with pressure vessel and piping codes such as PD5500, ASME, PED - Desirable.
* Experience conducting seismic analysis within the nuclear industry - Desirable.
