British Sign Language (BSL) Communicator – School Based Role

Swansea | September 2026 Start | Full Time | Monday – Friday Join a school where inclusion, communication and pupil wellbeing are genuinely at the heart of daily life.

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and skilled BSL Communicator to join a supportive and welcoming school in Swansea from September 2026.

About the Role

As a BSL Communicator, you will work closely with pupils, teaching staff, ALN professionals and families to support effective communication and access to learning throughout the school day.

This is a varied, rewarding and impactful role requiring patience, professionalism and the ability to build strong relationships with young people.

You will play a key role in ensuring pupils can: Fully access classroom learning Participate confidently in school life Develop independence and self-confidence Build positive social relationships Thrive both academically and emotionally

Key Responsibilities

Communication & Learning Support

* Providing British Sign Language (BSL) communication support during lessons and school activities.
* Supporting pupils to access learning across the curriculum.
* Clarifying and adapting communication to meet individual pupil needs.
* Supporting pupils during group work, interventions and social situations.
* Encouraging independence, confidence and participation within the classroom.

Pastoral & Emotional Support

* Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
* Supporting emotional wellbeing and social development.
* Helping pupils feel included, understood and valued within the school environment.
* Promoting confidence and self-advocacy skills.

Collaboration & Teamwork

* Working closely with teachers, ALN staff, outside agencies and families.
* Supporting the implementation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
* Contributing to reviews, meetings and pupil progress discussions.
* Helping staff understand and support communication needs effectively.

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for candidates who hold: Level 2 or Level 3 British Sign Language (BSL) Qualification Experience working with children or young people Strong communication and interpersonal skills A calm, patient and nurturing approach

Experience within education, ALN/SEN support or deaf education would be highly beneficial.
