Overview
Applications are invited for two substantive Consultant posts in General Surgery based at NHS Golden Jubilee University National Hospital (GJUNH). The posts support the continued strategic expansion of elective General Surgery, Endoscopy and Colorectal Services within a National Treatment Centre.
Service
The General Surgery Service delivers a high‑volume elective programme, encompassing:
* Day case and short‑stay general and benign upper gastrointestinal surgery
* A comprehensive range of colorectal inpatient and day case procedures
* A nationally recognised and expanding Complex Abdominal Wall Surgery Service
The service operates within a multidisciplinary, consultant‑led model, supported by modern infrastructure and a strong culture of service development, quality improvement and clinical governance.
Candidate Focus
Applications are welcomed from candidates with a general/benign Upper GI focus, and/or demonstrable experience in Complex Abdominal Wall Surgery.
Additional Opportunities
* Contribute to and further develop the established robotic surgery programme
* Deliver endoscopy within a JAG‑accredited service, the first in Scotland to achieve this status
* Practice within a new, purpose‑built, state‑of‑the‑art Endoscopy Unit
* Apply to join the faculty of the National Endoscopy Training Programme, subject to eligibility and service need
Applicant Requirements
* Hold full GMC registration
* Be on the Specialist Register, or be eligible for inclusion within six months of interview
* Demonstrate commitment to high‑quality elective care, service development and team‑based working

These posts are advertised as full‑time positions, however, applications from those seeking part‑time hours or joint appointments are encouraged and would be considered on an individual basis. Fixed‑term locum appointments would also be considered with possibility of converting to a substantive post at the end of the fixed term.
