Project Engineer – AC EHV Onshore Cable Projects
Location: UK or Ireland (with travel across UK/IE and Europe)
We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join our team supporting the AC EHV Onshore Cable business across the UK and Ireland. This role involves delivering advanced engineering skills on Turnkey, Supply & Joint, and Supply-only projects, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with NKT standards. You will work closely with NKT Engineering, Sales, C&T, and Project Management teams in the UK and Europe to deliver completed projects, while promoting NKT’s turnkey capabilities and best practices in health, safety, and environmental matters.
Main Responsibilities
1. Provide technical responsibility for quotations, project documentation, and engineering deliverables for HVAC land cable projects.
2. Ensure adherence to NKT Engineering Policies and Procedures.
3. Collaborate with the System Engineering Team to compile and issue documentation to clients.
4. Deliver installation engineering support, including construction drawings and detailed designs.
5. Conduct technical feasibility reviews, calculations, and system design for tenders.
6. Prepare technical documents, drawings, and specifications for construction works.
7. Manage design change control and ensure compliance with client specifications.
8. Support project teams during technical negotiations, FATs, and acceptance tests.
9. Implement inspection and test plans and quality checks on-site.
10. Participate in HAZID/HAZOP, DRM, progress, and interface meetings.
Success Criteria
11. Deliver projects in collaboration with NKT’s Cologne factory and supply chain partners.
12. Ensure quality delivery through robust inspection and test plans.
13. Maintain accurate and complete technical documentation for construction and commissioning.
Interfaces
The qualified candidate will report directly to the Head of Installation Engineering and work under the guidance of the NKT Project Manager on assigned projects. This role requires building and maintaining effective relationships with client engineering teams and NKT supply chain partners to guarantee seamless collaboration and effective project delivery.
What will you bring?
14. Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
15. Minimum 5 years’ experience on large EHV engineering projects.
16. Previous experience with EHV/HV cable systems.
17. IOSH Safety Management and CDM Awareness.
18. Extensive commercial awareness and knowledge of H&S, environmental, and sustainability legislation.
19. Experience with principal contractor and designer roles.
Travel Requirements
20. Approx. 50% travel (UK/IE projects and European NKT facilities for FATs and meetings).
21. Office-based when within 50 miles of an NKT office (Teesside or Perth); remote working available otherwise.
