Job Title: Consultant Cardiac Surgeon

Contract Type: Fixed term (12 months) – Limited Term Project
Duration: 12 months
This role is endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons and is designed to lead the adult acquired cardiac surgical team through a period of meaningful change, setting a direction of growth for one of the busiest services in the UK.
Applicants may be NHS employees on secondment or external candidates on a fixed term contract. If a substantive Consultant Cardiac Surgeon role becomes available, it will be openly advertised; there is no automatic right to extension or appointment.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development of the adult acquired cardiac service, aligning work with GIRFT, RCS recommendations, and NHSE Service Specification.
* Embed sustainable practices to support theatre utilisation, optimise patient pathways, and strengthen team working.
* Develop the surgical team structure to support subspecialisation, succession planning, and wider service development (e.g., a single aortic stenosis pathway).
