Senior Care Assistant- Mental Health Unit The Home Blair House Care Home is a registered Nursing Home located on the outskirts of Newtownards, overlooked by Scrabo Tower. It is close to the town centre with different transport options available. Blair House Care Home has a total of 85 beds across 4 units including Residential Dementia, Nursing Dementia, Frail and Elderly Nursing, and a newly opened Mental Health Unit. The team in Blair House Care Home are well experienced in their fields and provide high quality care to all of our residents. The Role The Senior Care Assistant role in our Homes is part of dedicated team who are essential to the daily operations of the Home. In our Mental Health units, this is a leadership role, working closely with the care team to lead on shifts. Senior Care Assistants provide high quality care and support to our residents in a warm and safe environment. Senior Care Assistants play a crucial role in the delivery of care, working with the care team, the role of a Senior Care Assistant is to provide leadership, guidance and hands-on assistance to ensure the residents receive personalised care that meets their individual needs and preferences. Our Senior Care Assistants also provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering meaningful relationships and promoting a sense of compassion; an advocacy for the rights and preferences of our residents. About The Role Main Responsibilities Assist residents when required with personal care tasks and mobility while promoting independence and dignity. Establish rapport and build trusting relationships with residents, demonstrating empathy, patience and understanding in all interactions. Provide assistance when required with eating and drinking, ensuring that residents receive adequate nutrition and hydration according to their individual needs and preferences. Assist senior and nursing team members with care plans, tasks, and activities to support residents wellbeing. Participate in activities, motivating and supporting residents to get involved, promoting mental stimulation, socialisation and emotional wellbeing Assess and observe the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of residents, recognising changes and reporting as necessary in a timely manner. Monitor and document residents health, wellbeing and care interventions accurately and in accordance with regulatory requirements and best practices. Assist with the induction and training of new members of the team, providing support and guidance to support their success and integration into the team. Responsibility for the accuracy of personal recordings in residents records and maintaining confidentiality. Promote a positive and inclusive work environment, fostering team-work collaboration and open communication among care staff and the wider Home team. Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development, staying informed about best practices and trends in care and attending training as required. Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as designated by the Home Manager.
