Walsall One PCN - Modality Partnership

Walsall Division has a full-time vacancy for a PCN Pharmacy Technician on a 1-year fixed-term contract. The postholder will be a high-performing Pharmacy Technician, working across the Partnership and the Walsall PCN Practices, providing Pharmacy Technician support alongside Pharmacists. Together with digital enablers such as online consultations, they will create an innovative pharmacy hub for patients. The role involves working with the wider team, including Pharmacists, Prescribing teams, and GPs, to ensure prescribing targets are met and changes are implemented promptly.

Main duties of the job

The core responsibilities will cover clinical, technical, and administrative categories. The role's purpose is to lead improvements to maximize safe, cost-effective, and best practice prescribing to enhance patient care. The postholder will help patients optimize their medication use by switching medications per approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes in General Practice, including promoting repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimizing clinical risks, and reducing wasted medicines.

The role is not a standard 9am-5pm job; it requires innovation, flexibility, and commitment. The postholder will need to work resourcefully as part of the team to ensure tasks are completed.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in pharmacy services
* Enrolled in, undertaking, or qualified from an approved training pathway (e.g., PCPEP or MOCH)


Personal Qualities

* Self-motivated and proactive
* Committed to continuous improvement
* Capable of working across multiple sites and traveling as needed
* Adaptable to change and able to cope with uncertainty
* Excellent time management and prioritization skills


Knowledge

* Advanced knowledge of Primary Care Networks, General Practice, and evidence-based medicine
* Understanding of NHS priorities, GP funding, and pharmacy law


Experience

* At least 2 years in hospital, community, or primary care pharmacy
* Primary care experience preferred


Skills

* Proficient with GP clinical systems and Microsoft Office
* Data analysis and interpretation skills
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Effective communication and negotiation skills
* Understanding of data protection and confidentiality


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. Evidence of vaccination may be required for some roles.

Salary: Depending on experience, around £25,000 WTE.
